We Have Never Charged and Will Never Charge Tenant Fees
- Company News
Tenant fees refer to any payment made by the tenant to the letting agent or landlord apart from holding deposit, tenancy deposit and rent. A draft bill was put before parliament in November 2017 proposing a ban on letting agents charging tenant fees for services such as referencing, credit checking and administration such as the printing out of contracts. The proposed legislation won’t affect our business practices. At Pearl Lettings, we have never charged tenant fees.
The Pearl Lettings Model
We consider landlords to be customers of our services and tenants to be consumers. We work with landlords to make sure that their properties are of a desirably high quality and then we manage the properties and assist the tenants for a percentage of the landlord’s rental income. In this model, there is no need to charge exorbitant fees to tenants for standard services such as reference checks and contracts.
A Fair Deal for Everyone
This is the way we ran the agency before the government’s proposed bill was introduced. And this is the way we’ll run it if future legislative changes mean that it is once again legal to charge these fees. We are well aware that less scrupulous agents have for years been charging hundreds of pounds for these services. At Pearl Lettings, we believe in treating everyone fairly.
