Located a short walk from the University of East Anglia, the residential estate of West Earlham is a popular area of the city for students studying at the region’s flagship higher education establishment. West Earlham has a variety of large modern homes – perfect for student house shares.

Local Amenities

The Tesco in the garage on the Fiveways Roundabout is 24-hour – handy for students who have been burning the midnight oil in the UEA library. West Earlham also has a large Co-op that keeps more conventional hours, but has the added bonus of a Subway sandwich shop on the premises. A small parade of independent shops opposite the health centre includes a newsagent, a library, a butcher, a vintage clothes store and a place that fixes damaged mobile phones!

Bus Routes and Cycle Paths

The Orange Line buses that serve Bowthorpe run through West Earlham on their way to Norwich city centre. Catch the Number 21 or 22 bus to be in the city in under 30 minutes. Those students who are more athletically inclined can cycle in. A marked cycle path runs all the way along the Avenues from Bluebell Road by the University to the city centre end of Unthank Road. This side of Norwich is famously lacking in hills, so a fit cyclist should be able to make the journey quicker than the bus.

The UEA Campus

The most appealing feature of West Earlham for a student will be its proximity to the UEA campus. There is student accommodation available all over the city of Norwich, but many locations will involve a long walk or expensive bus tickets to get to your lectures. Students renting in West Earlham have the luxury of a short stroll to all the wonderful campus facilities.
